The Runaways clip starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning star in The Runaways as real-life rockers Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, founding members of the all-girl group The Runaways.

Kristen Stewart in The Runaways

We've got an exclusive clip from The Runaways that has its stars seeing stars when speaking about the inspirational women who broke through the male dominated world of rock and roll in the 1970s.

"I think our generation has grown up with really strong female music performers. We're used to that. I think this movie will open the eyes of people our age who don't really know that it was so tough for them once upon a time,"Dakota Fanning said.

Kristen Stewart worked closely with Joan Jett to effectively capture a moment in time that almost seems antiquated in today's word of female rock stars. "If people are being themselves, it's going to get really intense, I don't know, taboo," Kristen Stewart said of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie expressing themselves in a time when women were encouraged to be more reserved. "When something is true, people are going to be like: Oh, they're a little too hardcore."

The Runaways created hits such as Cherry Bomb, which was featured in the 1990s hit Dazed and Confused. To see the cinematic story behind the rock and roll legends is a refreshing and intensive look at women battling the odds to ultimately triumph.

The RunawaysThe Twilight Saga: Eclipsemay be what Kristen Stewart is most known for these days, but she shows another side of herself in The Runaways. Stewart is widely believed to be the best of the three main actors in Twilight and Kristen Stewart's talent is on full display as Joan Jett in The Runaways.

Dakota Fanning has literally grown up in front of movie audiences' eyes. Dakota Fanning is also in The Twilight Saga alongside Kristen Stewart and here, too, in The Runaways, Fanning shows her acting chops as the troubled rocker. "They did get really close. They went through a lot together," Dakota Fanning said of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie.

In our exclusive clip from The Runaways, Cherie Currie takes us behind the scenes with The Runaways director Floria Sigismondi and gives SheKnows readers a glimpse into how the real-life story of female empowerment made it to the big screen starring two of Hollywood's hottest up-and-coming actresses -- Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart.

Dakota Fanning crowned homecoming queen

Breaking Dawn actress Dakota Fanning has been named homecoming queen of her private California high school!

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning has played many roles in her young life, but the one she is relishing most right now is that of normal high school student. Fanning may be one of the stars of Twilight, but being crowned homecoming queen at her California high school is the highlight of her year so far!

Fanning, who was named to the homecoming court last year, accepted the honor with her usual girlish grace, wearing a short sparkling dress with black tights and boots while taking the arm of her king, a varsity football player.

But wait, why is a star of Fanning's caliber attending a regular high school -- albeit a pricey private one -- instead of having a private tutor like most child stars? Call it a need for normalcy.

Dakota told Today in June, "I think it was really important to have the high school experience. I think that I want [the college] experience as well. I just think everyone always looks back on that time in their life. Who was homecoming princess and [did] the cheerleading...and all the things that go along with high school? And I wanted to have that. I'm really lucky that I found a school that allows me to do both."

The teen's next role is back on the big screen, as Jane in both installments of Breaking Dawn.

Surprise, Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular part one airs: Did she ugly cry?

As we previously reported, a bevy of celebrities turned up at Chicago’s United Center for the Surprise, Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular taping. Well, part one has finally aired. Did Oprah Winfrey break out the ugly cry? Read on to find out.

When Oprah Winfrey's crew put together a who's-who list of celebrities for the queen of talk's Surprise, Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular taping, we have to admit, we were curious as to who was going to be involved.

Oprah

By now it's no secret that Tom Hanks played master of ceremonies, bringing all of Oprah's friends and fans together to say a fond farewell through taped packages and live tributes. If you were living under a rock over the past week and didn't hear all the buzz surrounding the evening's events, it's okay. Here are a few moments from part one that were talked about, but transferred so much better emotionally once aired. We're looking for the Oprah ugly cry here, people.

As expected, Tom Cruise, Madonna, Beyonce and Halle Berry all showed up to celebrate Oprah Winfrey in the first part of the extravaganza. It was much cooler watching Tom Cruise walk out to the Mission Impossible theme than it was hearing about it. It was even more emotional to listen to him utter the very phrase Oprah Winfrey advised us all to believe in: "You always had the power and that is the lesson you brought." She almost broke out the ugly cry when Josh Groban and Patti LaBelle serenaded her with Somewhere Over the Rainbow -- but she held it back -- darn.

Another big moment was Dakota Fanning speaking for the young girls of the world who have been inspired by Oprah Winfrey. The talk show host looked on as Fanning introduced girls who have lost weight, dreamed big or just changed their lives because of Winfrey's wisdom. Beyonce also took part in the young female generation, showing girls can run the world. Her stage performance of Run the World was absolutely sick -- in a good way.

Oprah wiped her eyes when John Legend announced 25 libraries across the country would be rebuilt and she got a little misty eyed when Diane Sawyer told her 25,000 oak trees would be planted in honor of her 25-year reign -- nope, not time for the ugly cry.

If you really want to talk emotional, imagine the United Center lights dimmed while Rascal Flatts sang I Won't Let Go with lyrics like "I will stand by you" and "I will fight your fight" filling up digital panels across the center. We ugly cried but Oprah did not.

We think she's saving the ugly cry for Wednesday's finale, but there's still part two of the Surprise, Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular to air on Tuesday -- maybe she'll break it out then. She is a poised lady, you know.

Sofia Coppola is marrying her baby daddy this summer

Director Sofia Coppola is planning a summer wedding in Italy. The Somewhere director will wed her longtime boyfriend, rocker Thomas Mars.

sofia coppola marriedSomewhere director Sofia Coppola is getting married to her boyfriend and father of her children this summer in a private wedding ceremony on her father's estate in southern Italy. Coppola, 40, and rocker Thomas Mars, 34, have two children together -- Romy, 4, and Cosima, 1.

Coppola's rep says the ceremony will be "an intimate family wedding." It will take place at Palazzo Margherita in Bernalda, Italy. Coppola's great-grandfather is from the area. Her father, Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, is renovating the estate.

In 2004, Coppola won an Academy Award for Lost in Translation, which she wrote and directed. The movie's soundtrack features a track by Phoenix, her husband-to-be's Grammy-winning band. The couple met while Coppola was working on the soundtrack for The Virgin Suicides. The pair has since collaborated on music for Marie Antoinette and Somewhere.

Coppola was married to Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze from 1999 to 2003. She is rumored to have dated actor Keanu Reeves and director Quentin Tarantino.

Last year, Tarantino was accused of playing favorites with his former flame when he and a panel of other critics awarded Coppola's Somewhere the top prize at the Venice Film Festival.

"Being her friend didn't affect me or make me sway the jury in any way," Tarantino stated at the time. "The other members of the jury don't know her at all. They just loved the film."

Is Dakota Fanning's Marc Jacobs ad too sexy?

Dakota Fanning appears in a new ad for the Marc Jacobs perfume Oh, Lola! Is the photo too sexy for the teen?

Dakota Fanning

Sexy isn't the first word people think of when they hear the name Dakota Fanning. The actress has never cultivated that image, focusing more on her craft than on her sultriness. Maybe that's why her new ad for the Marc Jacobs perfume Oh, Lola! is creating such a stink.

The ad seems innocuous enough -- Fanning is not provocatively dressed, nor is she bent over or even licking her lips. In fact, the seeming innocence of the shot is what makes it so controversial.

"When we were speaking about who to use in the ads," Jacobs told Women's Wear Daily, "I had recently seen The Runaways... I knew she could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet."

Lolita, of course, is the sexually precocious fictional 12-year-old in the Vladimir Nabokov novel of the same name.

In the ad, Fanning wears a sweet but short polka dot dress and poses with the large, flowering perfume bottle propped phallically between her legs. Although shot by longtime Jacobs collaborator Juergen Teller, the ad has the feeling, particularly due to the lighting, of a low-budget 1970s skin shoot a la photographer Terry Richardson.

Perhaps it is somewhat shocking because we remember Dakota Fanning as a child? She isn't the little girl we met in I Am Sam anymore -- the 17-year-old Twilight star graduated from high school last week.

Twilight actress Dakota Fanning has reportedly enrolled at New York University…on the sly. Find out how NYU students outed her!

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning was spotted touring the campus of NYU last spring – and now the I Am Sam actress is a freshman at the university. Fanning has never publicly acknowledged the fact that she was studying at NYU --- but some fellow classmates outed the star, thanks to her @nyu.edu email account which shows she is enrolled.

"We were messing around in the new NYU Gmail system and saw that her name and Net ID are in the auto complete directory," the NYU Local reported.

Fanning is using her complete name, Hannah Dakota Fanning, for her email address.

They go on to explain that their email addresses are fully public to NYU students – and they go on to say you can gchat with Spike Lee if you are so inclined!

Fanning, 17, will join quite an elite class of 2015 at NYU, including Suite Life stars Dylan and Cole Sprouse. Harry Potter's Emma Watson had reportedly toured the school after reportedly leaving Brown because of bullies, but decided to go to Oxford for a year.

Other notable celebs that have attended NYU include James Franco, Mary-Kate Olsen and Alec Baldwin received an honorary doctorate degree in 2010.

In addition to her studies, the busy actress wrapped up filming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and is currently filming Now Is Good, about a girl with leukemia who wants to lose her virginity before she dies.

Dakota Fanning's perfume ad deemed too young, too hot

Dakota Fanning is simply too young and too sexy in a series of perfume ads for Marc Jacobs -- or so says one watchdog group. Do you agree?

Dakota Fanning -- Marc Jacobs adDakota Fanning and Marc Jacobs are stirring up trouble across the pond. The Advertising Standards Authority in the United Kingdom has banned a series of 'Oh, Lola!' ads starring the young actress.

A total of four people got in touch with agency to challenge "whether the ad was offensive and irresponsible as it portrayed the young model in a sexualized manner."

After an investigation, the ASA ruled 17-year-old Dakota Fanning to be too hot for print. A statement on their site reads:

We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality.

The sentence? The ASA has decreed, "The ad must not appear again in its current form." The report notes perfume maker Coty UK has disputed the ruling, stating, "They believed the giant perfume bottle was provoking but not indecent."

If the photo and controversy ring a bell, you may recall SheKnows asked readers back in June if Dakota Fanning's photo was too sexy. Of shooting the ad in question, Marc Jacobs commented previously, "When we were speaking about who to use in the ads. I had recently seen The Runaways... I knew she could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet."

Dakota Fanning was thrilled to take part in the Marc Jacobs campaign. "Every time one of Marc's fragrances comes out I run to the store to buy it," the actress said. "The moment I was asked to be a part of the Oh, Lola! campaign, I was so humbled and said 'yes' immediately."

Do you think Dakota Fanning's perfume ad deserved to be banned?

Dakota Fanning creeped out by her own ad

$

Dakota Fanning's latest Marc Jacob's ads are drawing fire for being too provocative, but the first set she did years earlier are worse -- and even the actress herself agrees.

Dakota Fanning's Marc Jacobs perfume ad has been banned in Great Britain, but the actress herself is way more creeped out by a series she did for the designer's clothing line when she was just 12 years old.

Dakota Fanning

The ads feature a remarkably young-looking Fanning -- even for 12 -- wearing miniature versions of Jacob's runway couture and projecting a very adult, somewhat sexualized image.

Now Dakota Fanning herself says it was pretty creepy.

"I was 12," Fanning told W magazine. "I was always into fashion because my mom has always been interested in fashion. She majored in fashion merchandising in college, and it's always been something we have in common. When I did that first campaign for Marc Jacobs, I really wasn't old enough to wear the clothes. He made all the clothes from the runway in my size. I still have them."

"They were too adult," Fanning admits. Still, she says she appreciated the chance to wear something other than her school uniform.

"…my school, Campbell Hall, had uniforms," she told W magazine. "But on Fridays we could wear anything we wanted. There would always be at least one Friday where you'd forget and show up in uniform. It would be so embarrassing. I did that once and actually made my dad drive me back home to change."

Fanning's latest ad for Marc Jacobs' perfume line has come under fire because it is "offensive and irresponsible as it portrayed the young model in a sexualized manner," according to the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK, where the ad was banned. Fanning was 17 at the time it was shot.

Fanning is keeping herself busy with multiple films, including next year's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Elle Fanning: Family fashion maven

Elle Fanning might be the little sister, but she has a big role to fill: family fashion maven. Read how her sister Dakota Fanning says her little sis fills it perfectly.

Dakota Fanning Elle FanningDakota Fanning might be the best known actor in the family, but her little sister Elle Fanning is quickly catching up -- and she has one skill even her big sis will concede. Turns out Elle is the family fashion maven!

The two told Teen Vogue that Elle is totally obsessed with fashion, and Dakota now turns to her for sartorial guidance despite being the big!

Dakota Fanning creeped out by own ad>>

"I remember the first time Dakota asked me for fashion advice about what to put with what," Elle told the mag. "I was like, My big sister is asking me?"

Dakota conceded, "She's the go-to fashion person in the family. Elle knows every single model, every single collection, every single piece from every single collection. She has a real passion, and it's not at all in a materialistic way. She genuinely appreciates the workmanship and creativity."

"It's funny, 'cause when you're an older sister, you try to be the leader and example, and I've recently had to accept that we're equals," Dakota said. "The day has come when I actually need her help. I've had to admit that to myself and break down and be like, 'Little sister, does this look good?'"

Elle Fanning says Ryan Gosling is her celebrity crush>>

But that doesn't mean there are no closet wars between the two. "She steals my clothes!" Dakota revealed.

"As far as I'm concerned," Dakota continued, "there's a no-closet-sharing policy, but as far as Elle is concerned… I'll go in my room, and there will be clothes on the floor, clothes missing, clothes that are now in her closet."

"Last summer," she says, "I was in London working on a film, and I was looking online and these pictures came up on my homepage. She was in my hat, my dress, my shoes. I called her up and was like, 'I caught you! They photographed you wearing all my stuff. Put it back!'"

Did Elle listen? No way. "She hung up on me!" Dakota laughed. "She didn't care at all."

Ever wonder why Dakota Fanning is so amazing at everything she does? It all comes natural, she says.

Dakota Fanning covers Cosmopolitan No one can ever accuse Dakota Fanning of being self-conscious. The prolific actress covers the February issue of Cosmopolitan and explains how she's still so well adjusted despite a career in the spotlight.

"Since I was young, I've always known who I was. I never really had to go through finding who I am. I've always felt really secure," the 17-year-old told the mag.

And why wouldn't she be super confident? Fanning has been in the spotlight since she was a tot and understands the power fame brings.

"I think that when you're in the public eye, you automatically become a role model, because people are reading about you and looking at pictures of stuff you've done," Fanning said in a 2010 V Magazine interview. "But, you know, no one's perfect, everyone makes mistakes. I have made mistakes and I will make mistakes. I'm only human."

Her bestie, Kristen Stewart, also sees Fanning's confidence when it comes to acting.

"We had a few scenes that were crazy intimidating, and maybe once or twice, she was like 'Okay, I have a butterfly in my stomach,'" Stewart told Cosmo of filming The Runaways together. "Meanwhile, I'm hyperventilating! Sometimes I give her s**t for being so on the ball."

We've got to give her credit for balancing a high-profile career with studies at NYU — and she's not even 18 yet! Actually, we're jealous — why weren't we so put together at 18?

Oh, who are we kidding? We're still not that put together.

Cosmo controversy: Boycott over Dakota Fanning cover?

$
0
0
Cosmopolitan magazine is facing a petition to have the mag's February issue removed from newsstands after editors published a saucy cover featuring teen star Dakota Fanning and a myriad of "sexually explicit" headlines.

The February issue of Cosmopolitan magazine features a smoldering Dakota Fanning on the cover and a bit of controversy.

In August 2010, model Nicole Weider began a campaign to ensure that the magazine's often racy headlines are kept out of sight from people under 18 . And anyone else who finds "explicit" and "pornographic" content, like "Ways to Seduce Your Man" and "50 Ways to Achieve a Screaming O," highly offensive.

So imagine Nicole's displeasure when Cosmo unveiled its latest cover, featuring The Runaways star surrounded by a series of racy captions, including "His Best Sex Ever,""Virgin Orgasms" and "Too Naughty To Say Here: But You Have to Try This Sex Trick!"

Dakota,  who turns 18 at the end of next month, looks considerably older than her age with dark eye makeup, long, flowing blonde hair and a form-fitting dress.

Several critics have joined Weider in taking aim at the magazine over the controversial cover. Many readers have taken to Twitter to express their outrage. Opponents argue that Dakota appears out of place surrounded by the saucy headlines.

Dakota Fanning creeped out by her own ad>>

"As a former reader of the magazine, I happened to pick up an issue and was reading it and was completely shocked at how pornographic and explicit the content had become," Weider told FOX411's "Pop Tarts" column last week.

"I immediately thought of my young teenage brothers and it horrified me to think that they and their friends could be reading this material and the damage it would do to them if they did. So I decided to do something about it."

The cover has created such a stink that approximately 10,000 online petitioners are supporting an initiative to get Cosmo out of your face at the checkout line.

On Saturday, the publication issued this statement on the controversy:

"We're thrilled to feature Dakota Fanning on the February cover of Cosmopolitan magazine and she looks stunning. Dakota, who turns 18 this month, is a mature, fearless young woman and we are proud to honor her as our Fun Fearless Female of the year," a Cosmo spokesperson told Fox News.

The Cosmo controversy comes just months after a perfume campaign featuring Fanning was banned in the UK. Ad censors across the pond yanked Dakota's spot for Marc Jacobs' Oh, Lola! fragrance because it appeared to "sexualize a child."

The image in question featured the actress sitting on the floor with the perfume bottle between her thighs.

The fashion house defended the ad.

We feel old: Dakota Fanning turns 18

Dakota Fanning turns 18 today, believe it or not. Find out how the precocious young actress keeps a level head -- and lives a normal life -- in a stressful industry.

Dakota Fanning turns 18

Happy birthday, Dakota Fanning! The prolific actress and Marc Jacobs' muse is celebrating the big 1-8 today — a big birthday for normal kids, but she's accomplished more in her 18 years than most people twice her age.

The actress — currently attending school at NYU and filming the upcoming movie Effie— is one of the good girls. Fanning managed to juggle high school and cheerleading with a life of movie-making. Now, she's moved on to juggling college with her jet-set lifestyle.

"For the same reasons I wanted to go to a high school," she told W magazine of the reason for going to college. "You hear people say, 'Oh, when I was in high school' or 'When I was in college.' That defines a lot of who people are, and I didn't want to miss out on that."

She's not exactly having the typical college experience, though — she's not living with roommates.

"No roommates… My mom is staying with me in my apartment for a little bit. She's teaching me how to wash clothes and such. But I'm so excited to be on my own. In my house in L.A., we all feel that everything is everybody's, and so doors are never really closed. My sister and I share a bathroom, and when you have a sibling, nothing is actually your own. I've never really had anything or any place that was just mine."

Dakota Fanning knows she's awesome>>

The thing we love most about the Breaking Dawn actress is her ability to grow up in the public eye with ease — she's never been caught stumbling outside a club like some of her peers. Maybe it's because she has a down-to-earth view on life and fame?

"I've always felt that you should never forget that you're just a person. Even though you're not like everyone else, you are just like everyone else. For instance, I met someone the other day, and they said, 'Hi, I'm so-and-so.' I said, 'Hi, I'm Dakota.' And they're like, 'Yeah, I know.' But I can't lose the fact that I still need to introduce myself to people even though they might already know my name or who I am. Oh, yeah, I guess you already know my name, but I'm going to say it anyway."

She's also a typical big sister, according to Elle Fanning— though they don't always get along.

"She is a nice older sister," Elle said. "But it's not like we always get along. Now that she's going to college, it's different. I went into her room at home in California, and all her clothes were gone! Her closet was empty! I don't get to go in there and steal clothes anymore."

Life is never fair, is it, Elle?

Dakota Fanning plans an image shake-up for adulthood

Dakota Fanning is making the most of her newly minted membership into adulthood. The beloved child actress is all grown up, and is busily planning out a fresh path for her future.

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning is now two full months into her adult life, and thus far has only made her parents swell with pride. But what's this we hear about changing her image now that she's over 18? Say it isn't so, Dakota!

The actress, who started attending New York University last fall at the age of 17, recently explained to California Style magazine, "I’m not going to school for a career. I’m going for my own interest, for myself."

Fans fearing Dakota Fanning might disappear from film in pursuit of another career option need not worry, however. Referring to acting the college freshman assured, "I already know what I want to do forever."

Dakota Fanning's latest project, the period drama Effie, tells the story of teenage bride Effie Gray, who disastrously wed Victorian art critic John Ruskin. Noted as the 18-year-old's first adult role, the actress' lack of experience with romantic love in her personal life proved to be a help, not a hindrance in bringing her character to life.

When asked if she's ever been in love, Fanning told the magazine, "Ahh, not really. No. I would have to say no… but Effie wasn’t really in love with her husband, either, which made [filming the movie] easier."

Dakota Fanning knows she's awesome>>

As for having celebrated her 18th birthday on Feb. 23, it's safe to say Dakota Fanning feels a sense of liberation. "I feel like this new chapter as an adult is almost like starting over," the young star commented. "That’s the interesting part about getting older in this business. I’m excited to present myself differently."

Understandable -- but let's hope not too differently! Don't we all love Dakota Fanning just the way she is?

Angelina Jolie's daughter to join Maleficent cast

Maleficent is staying in the family. Disney announced today that Vivienne Jolie-Pitt will be playing the heroine in the movie, in which her mom plays the evil queen.

Angelina Jolie
and Brad Pitt have six children, and they work hard to keep them out of the public eye.

But today they announced that they are very intentionally putting one of them directly into the public eye.

According to Reuters, "Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, daughter of actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, will soon follow in the footsteps of her famous parents, appearing in Disney movie Maleficent, the studio said on Wednesday."

The 4-year-old's mother is playing the title character of the movie, and Vivienne will play none other than the heroine, albeit a young version of her.

The movie is based on the Disney classic Sleeping Beauty.

"Vivienne will portray a young version of Princess Aurora, who is cursed to sleep until awoken by kiss from a handsome prince," said Reuters.

Vivienne is the twin sister of Knox Leon Jolie-Pitt. The twins were born in France in 2008. Parents Angelina and Brad still have a home in France and have been spending time there recently.

The grown-up Princess Aurora will be played by Elle Fanning, younger sister of actress Dakota Fanning. Vivienne's part in the movie will not be a large one, but Princess Aurora will still be treated as a major character.

"Angelina Jolie's daughter Vivienne will play a minor role as the child version of Princess Aurora, opposite her mother in Maleficent," Disney told Reuters. "The live-action film explores the origins of Disney's most iconic villain, Maleficent, and what led her to curse Princess Aurora."

The 14-year-old Elle Fanning may be the younger Fanning sister, but she has been acting since she was a baby and is no stranger to film. She has even acted alongside Jolie's husband Brad Pitt in 2008's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

There were no other details released today about Vivienne's part, but if she is anything like her parents, acting will come to her naturally.

Oops... even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We're telling you why Coco and Dakota Fanning's fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the celebrities' fashion mistakes!

Coco

Coco

Can you believe buxom E! reality star Coco has her own fashion line? Neither can we. Here's the Fashion Fail regular at Licious Apparel by Coco runway show and Fashion Week launch party. Lest you think she's actually showing her collection in NYC at Lincoln Center with other prestigious designers, Coco is showing her line in Las Vegas, obviously.

Who exactly is her demographic for the fashion line: fairground strippers? This latex dress with a sequined, embellished top is over the top, even for Las Vegas! It's way too tight and looks cheap.

According to Coco, her line is for curvy women. We're all for ladies showing off their assets, but there's a difference between tasteful and tacky.

The final verdict? Give your curves some room to breathe, girl! This dress is a few sizes too small and ugly to boot.

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning

Oh dear, Dakota. Did the NYU undergrad wake up late for class and forget to put on pants before she rolled out of bed? The actress-turned-college student was spotted out and about in Manhattan strolling around in this messy getup.

This baggy shirt dress is pretty short and we're not loving how she paired it with flat gray boots either. We totally understand that walking around NYC doesn't call for the same dressiness as hitting a red carpet movie premiere, but there's a way to do casual that doesn't scream sloppy.

The final verdict? We hope Dakota hits the stores for some back to school shopping for new collegiate clothes before she starts hitting the books again.
