Tinseltown Twi-hards: Celebs bitten by the Twilight craze

With Breaking Dawn — Part 2 premiering Friday, Nov. 16, buzz over the Twilight series is deafening... and it isn't coming solely from teenage girls. Unexpected celebrity fans like 50 Cent can't wait to catch the franchise's final flick either.

Adam Lambert at Mercedes Benz Fashion WeekAdam Lambert

When it comes to the Twilight series, Adam Lambert wears his heart on his oft-shiny, sparkly, or crushed velvet sleeves. While a relatively obscure contestant on American Idol, the glam goth rocker fessed up to loving the Stephanie Meyer books — and he’s brought up his fandom in several interviews since.

50 Cent

Apparently in the club — poppin’ bottles full of bub’ — isn’t the only recreational venue rapper 50 Cent can be found. He must spend a little spare time at the movies, since he told MTV in 2010 that Twilight“ain’t no joke” and he wouldn’t mind adding Robert Pattinson to his G-Unit crew.

President Obama

It’s hard to say which of Barack Obama’s jobs is more challenging: running the country… or running a household with two daughters. Fortunately, the commander-in-chief discovered that reading the Twilight books and discussing them with 14-year-old daughter Malia provides bonding time that doesn't make him, like, totally embarrassing.

Rosario Dawson

Stunning actress Rosario Dawson just can’t get enough of the Twilight tomes — in fact, she finds them dangerously addictive! “I just read the first book, it’s ridiculous, it’s like crack cocaine,” she told People magazine. “I read it for 10 hours straight until I finished it!”

Dakota Fanning

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have become household names due to the Twilight franchise, but Dakota Fanning is no little fish herself! The talented actress — who became the youngest person ever to be nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her I Am Sam role in 2001 — landed the role of a Volturi in 2009’s New Moon installment upon openly expressing her love for the series.

Emma Watson

Emma, who is best known as Hogwart’s star student Hermoine Granger, lamented to Elle UK, “I love those books. This is so sad, but I literally felt depressed when I finished them because I thought, ‘Oh my God, what am I going to do now?’” Which is pretty much how the rest of us felt when Harry Potter ended.

Kelly Clarkson

She had a hit song titled “My Life Would Suck Without You,” but we get the feeling the self-professed “nerd Twilight fan” wouldn’t mind a little sucking in her life — if it came at the fangs of Robert Pattinson. Not only did she tell Ryan Seacrest that all girls were searching for their own Edward, but she also serenaded a cardboard cutout of Mr. Cullen during a show.

Nina Dobrev

She may hail from a completely different clan, but Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev considers the Cullens part of the family. At the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, she explained, “I love the Twilight movies. I’m very happy that they exist because we exist because of them.”

Abigail Breslin

Zombieland actress Abigail Breslin is just like any other red-blooded teenage girl: She’s got the hots for Edward Cullen. When she shook Robert Pattinson’s hand at the MTV awards last year, she celebrated by jumping up and down. But is the 16-year old a member of Team Edward of Team Jacob? She’s not saying! “I’m afraid to say, I’ll get attacked!”

Caleb Followill

No word yet on whether Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill is going to pull an Obama and read the Twilight books with his new daughter, Dixie Pearl, but he has at least admitted to liking the vampire flicks. He told MTV News, “I really like Twilight a lot. It was a cool, generational kind of movie. I thought it was really pretty.”

Sexy & they
know it

In the wide and often exaggerated world of Hollywood, many celebrities fight for the spotlight. Only a select few have survived the fame and fortune with a healthy respect for class and legitimacy, making them worthy candidates for our unsung Alpha Women of Hollywood. These women don't need the limelight to know they've got it.

Our Alpha Woman theme this month puts a particular focus on women who are upstanding for what we consider "the right reasons". Now Hollywood is full of beautiful, talented people, but there are still some who raise the bar. And we're not discrediting the cut-throat nature of the industry; instead we're paying attention to the ones who work the hardest and often do not receive the sweeping applause. These stars go above and beyond the call of the camera and play an active part in society whether or not the script calls for it.

Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn

Take Olivia Munn for starters. There's a reason she's so convincing as Sloan on the hit HBO series The Newsroom. Munn graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in journalism and a minor in Japanese, so that scene where she "goes rogue" and slays a translator with her own Japanese isn't a voiceover. I believe that's what they call "beauty and brains".

Beyond her studious past, Munn is a testament to hard work. Sure, Munn may have recently starred alongside big names like Channing Tatum in Magic Mike, but don't forget she got her break hosting Attack of the Show. Beyond that, she's acted as a correspondent for The Daily Show, written a bestseller, modeled for numerous magazines and continues to show her support for charities such as UNICEF, PETA and Stand Up to Cancer. All that, and she's still not ashamed to nerd out and dance with Ellen.

The bottom line — Munn has made it, to say the least, but she keeps her hands busy, gives back and doesn't take herself too seriously all the while. Any woman who can gain this much status without letting it get to her head is a worthy Alpha Woman in our eyes.

Keep on moving on to exhibit two.

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts has forever lived up to her Pretty Woman roots, enticing audiences every few years with another wonderful lead in a romantic comedy. And let's not forget that Oscar she received for her powerful role in Erin Brockovich.

She's diverse.

Roberts doesn't have a closet of secrets or bad press. Instead, she's got a reputation for giving back. From her involvement with UNICEF and her visits to Haiti and India, Roberts has a global and willing perspective — something her friends in Hollywood should emulate more.

Adele

What about Adele? An Alpha Woman with an alpha voice, no doubt.

There's no denying her rich talent on the mic and the fact she's got an underdog story makes her all the more compelling. She's returned better and stronger than ever after her vocal chord surgery that very well could have cost her her career.

She's thankful for her newfound success and recognition, though she's said time and again in countless interviews that she doesn't feed off of the public eye, she just does her own thing and stays true to what she feels — which strangely makes us want her more.

And to top it off, she's a new mom. Sadly, a lot of press rained on the parade without remorse, taking the pregnancy as a launching pad for weight and body image critiques. It takes a strong woman to stand on stage alone and belt out songs with such power. It takes an even stronger woman to take the stage and shed the heartless remarks of critics. The way we see it, they've got no room to talk until they're holding eight Grammys, like Adele.

An Alpha Woman is confident in her own body and that fact, alone, makes her all the more beautiful.

And to look ahead, we have to focus on the next generation of Alpha Women in the making.

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning burst into the public spectrum with her timeless part as Lucy "Diamond" Dawson in I Am Sam, alongside Sean Penn. At the time, her role seemed to elude to an old soul deep within the heart of Fanning. It was utterly captivating to see that much control in a 7-year-old girl, but as with many childhood stars, we wondered how long that discipline would last amidst her newfound success.

Fanning's a rarity. No rehab or drama.

Fast forward to 2012, and she's 18, studying at New York University and recently starred in a big movie saga you may have heard of — Twilight. Ring any bells?

She's singlehandedly proving the potential of the youth of Hollywood, and though it's a heavy burden, she hasn't slowed yet.

Munn, Roberts, Adele and Fanning are but a few shining examples of women who know they've got it together, and the fact they don't need to exploit it is incredibly attractive. From beauty to brains, healthy humility, composure and charity, there's still room for the Alpha Woman in Hollywood.

The Sundance Film Festival is upon us and with countless independent submissions and reviews, it's time we take a look at some of the premieres we're most looking forward to. From Shia LaBeouf drug trips to Ashton Kutcher gone Steve Jobs, 2013 is packed full of some highly anticipated flicks.

Don Jon's Addiction

1

Don Jon's
Addiction

Topping off our list is Joseph- Gordon Levitt's directorial debut, Don Jon's Addiction. JGL stars as Jon Martello, a modern-day Don Juan-type who has a chronic habit of objectifying every aspect of his life. Despite his abilitiy to reel in dimes every weekend, his lust for more and addiction to pornography have left him feeling empty and alone. This time around, Martello's on a search for substance and sustenence in the form of lasting love. Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore also star. If the racy plot hasn't grabbed your attention yet, just consider this bulked-up version of Gordon-Levitt below.

2

The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman

Shia LaBeouf has stated before that Sean Penn's dedication to character development has been one of the motivating factors in his acting career, so it's no surprise LaBeouf dove head-first into the Sundance premiere, The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. Fans were concerned when LaBeouf freely admitted he did LSD on set for one of the film's more intense scenes, but it appears his attention to detail and methodical ways are only growing stronger. Audiences will have to wait until the release of Nymphomaniac to see just how far LaBeouf will go, as it's been reported he took it all the way home with actress Mia Goth and may now be dating her. But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here — The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman is an action film at heart with romantic comedy themes and a gangster element that tests the love of LaBeouf and co-star Evan Rachel Wood.

Two Mothers

3

Two Mothers

Naomi Watts and Robin Wright command this passionate film that entails two lifelong friends who fall in love with the other's sons. Romance leads to remorse, relations to retributions, and the friendships they once had are put to the ultimate test as the two mothers struggle to confront one another with their secrets and innermost desires.

4

jOBS

Ashton Kutcher is tackling the role of a lifetime in the form of tech mastermind Steve Jobs. The premiere is said to be a brilliant portrait of Jobs' life from 1977 to 2000 and is expected to be fueled with gritty dialogue to move the piece forward. The film will be a true test of Kutcher's abilities, straying far away from his funnyman roots.

Vergy Good Girls

5

Very Good Girls

Dakota Fanning, Demi Moore and Richard Dreyfuss star in Very Good Girls, a gripping movie about two lifelong friends who make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school. But when the two fall for the same street artist, their relationship is put to its first — and ultimate — test. Fanning rarely disappoints.

6

Before Midnight

Jesse   and Celine are back. It's been nearly two decades since they met on that train headed for Vienna and it's safe to say they are strangers no more. That intimate night, so very long ago, has lived on throughout the years and the couple is now in their early forties strolling around the better part of Greece.

Prince Avalanche

7

Prince Avalanche

From director David Gordon Green comes the quirky story of two unsuspecting coworkers and the friendship that is birthed along their less-than-stellar journey. Alvin and Lance begin to slowly understand one another throughout their summer stint, repainting highway lines down a county road that was destroyed by a sprawling wildfire. Together, they begin to discover a sense of meaning and understanding for the dreams they've kept within.

8

Lovelace

Meet Amanda Seyfried as Linda Boreman — perhaps best known as Linda Lovelace — the infamous 1970s sex icon and pornstar who derailed her husband's abusive and exploitative schemes in a desperate attempt to save others from similar reigns. The film is a trial-by-fire perspective on rise, demise and redemption, and the fact that it also stars James Franco, Peter Saarsgaard and Adam Brody has us putting some serious faith in its success.

Dakota Fanning on her banned too-sexy perfume ad

Newly of-legal-age star Dakota Fanning has filmed her first movie nude scene for the indie flick Very Good Girls, and looks back on a vintage scandal.

Dakota Fanning at movie premiere

Dakota Fanning wasn't naked in the perfume ad that got the campaign banned, but if the UK authorities are to be believed, she might as well have been.

The 2011 ad, which featured a then-17 Fanning in a brief pink dress leaning back while sitting on the floor with an Oh Lola! perfume bottle cradled between her legs, was deemed too provocative.

Fanning told Glamour that she was surprised by the furor.

"If you want to read something into a perfume bottle, then I guess you can," she said. "But it's also like, Why are you making it about that, you creep?"

Fanning said that she loves Marc Jacobs, the designer under whose label Oh Lola! is made: "I love Marc and trust him, and we just laughed about it."

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority noted at the time that Fanning looked younger than 17 in the image and that they "considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality."

"Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child. We therefore concluded that the ad was irresponsible and was likely to cause serious offence."

Gotta agree with you, ASA. The whole ad is awash in baby pink, lending it a girlish air, while the way Fanning is holding the perfume bottle and looking into the camera makes it appear as if she's getting something more out of the perfume, if you get our meaning.

Cosmo controversy: Boycott over Dakota Fanning cover?>>

It doesn't help that the Oh Lola! bottle is capped with a giant flower. You don't have to look at too many Georgia O'Keefe paintings to get a vibe from that bottle, you dig?

The Daily Mail reports that the perfume-maker Coty said that the image "did not show any private body parts or sexual activity. The giant perfume bottle was provoking but not indecent."

However, as the Daily Mail went on to report, Marc Jacobs said that he chose Fanning specifically because she was a "contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet."

You mean Lolita, the book about the middle-aged guy who kidnaps and molests his 12-year-old stepdaughter? Um, okay.

Fanning famously made out with Kristen Stewart for the film The Runaways, and had a cringingly awful-to-watch rape scene in Hounddog when she was 12, but she'll be naked for the first time on-screen when Very Good Girls is released later this year.

She told MTV at Sundance, "I'm very newly allowed to do that. I was newly 18, so yeah, it was, it's kind of a sensitive thing, but it's a part of life."

Kind of weird, seeing a child actor you watched grow up now naked. Shades of Daniel Radcliffe in Equus.

Very Good Girls centers around two teenagers who make a pact to lose their virginity the summer after they graduate from high school. We saw that movie! It was American Pie, right? No wait. It was Little Darlings, and the soon-to-do-it teens were Tatum O'Neal and Kristy McNichol. My, we're old.

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning

Looks like I'm on a blue kick this week! America's darling, Dakota Fanning, looked beautiful in blue this week at the Venice Film Festival when she showed up in this drop dead gorgeous Elie Saab Couture gown.

Hello dream dress! Dakota glided down the red carpet in this big, sparkly number. The deep hue pops beautifully against Dakota's ivory complexion, her straight and simple locks keep the daring neckline appropriate and her muted makeup keeps all attention on this stunning gown.

The final verdict? Sometimes, ladies, less is more. When you're wearing such an amazing dress, keep the attention on that statement maker, and don't distract with fancy makeup and hair. Keep it simple!

Nicole Scherzinger

Nicole Scherzinger

What's blue, red and yellow and totally sexy? Nicole Scherzinger's outfit, of course! The judge from The X Factor worked the red carpet for the show's launch in this flattering navy jumpsuit last week. Here's why I'm crushing on the look.

Nicole got in on the jumpsuit craze with this navy version featuring side zippers and a plunging neckline. She paired her look with sexy red pumps and fun yellow accent nails and shades. And her beauty look, you ask? Bombshell waves, glowing sun-kissed skin and flirty makeup. We wouldn't expect anything less from our girl.

The final verdict? Even though back-to-school season has us thinking about fall fashion, you can still look summery in a jumpsuit. The key? Select one in a darker fall hue but pair it with bright, bold summer accessories.

Dakota Fanning: "I'm just never going to parade my personal life"

The actress talks growing up in the spotlight and explains that, even at a young age, getting involved in acting was her idea. "It's hard to explain to someone who didn't know me as a child. But even before I started working — when I was two, three, four, five — I was an exceptionally mature child. I just was. And my mom and I were able to have conversations like, 'Do you want to go to California and go to auditions for commercials and TV shows? Is that something you want to do?' And I was like, 'Yeah, let's give it a try.'"

That doesn't mean it was easy. But Fanning's mother supported her all the way. "[My mother] realized I had the potential to do things that were bigger than the life she knew. And she recognized that in Elle, too. When she made that initial move with me to L.A.," Fanning explained, "she completely gave up her own dreams and started over in a place she never imagined living. I mean, Los Angeles, to a person from 20 minutes southeast of Atlanta, might as well be Africa."

Now that the actress has found success, though, she doesn't bask in the fame. She prefers her privacy. "I'm just never going to parade my personal life," Fanning told the magazine. "If you choose to not do it, it's not hard to not do it... any part of an artistic business is made better by there being a little mystery. That's what movies are about."

Dakota Fanning talks her banned too-sexy perfume ad >>

Still, she has had her fair share of being in the public eye. "Because people saw me grow up, there's this weird sort of ownership that they feel for me and that is... difficult. Because it's not real; it's in their minds. People don't know me as much as they think they do. I'll be walking down the street and someone will say hello, and I'll go, 'Oh, hi!' I'll think I must know this person if they said hello, but then you realize, you don't know them."

Fanning plans to continue her career. Eventually she'd like to direct and produce her own films.

"It's very hard to find a movie about a strong woman — one that doesn't have anything to do with a guy or the love of a guy or the heartbreak of a guy," Fanning said. "Is that the only crisis women deal with: love and loss of love and sadness? There's more to life than that."

EXCLUSIVE CLIP: Susan Sarandon, Dakota Fanning bare their claws in Errol Flynn biopic

$

Today's generation may only know Errol Flynn as "that guy who played Robin Hood in that Turner Classic movie I once watched with Grandpa," but the actor was one of Hollywood's most sought-after leading men during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. He starred in countless films and stole the hearts of millions, but he was also a heavy drinker who liked to party and who liked underage girls.

Erroly Flynn in The Adventures of Robin Hood
Photo credit: The Adventures of Robin Hood — MGM

Flynn also bears a striking resemblance to actor Kevin Kline, who is portraying the swashbuckling womanizer in the upcoming biopic, The Last of Robin Hood.

The film tells the story of Flynn's final (wild) days as a Hollywood playboy smitten with an underage chorus girl, Beverly Aadland, played by Dakota Fanning.

Dakota Fanning: "I'm just never going to parade my personal life" >>

In the film, Susan Sarandon plays Florence Aadland, the ultimate stage mom pimping out her teenage daughter to Flynn in a bid to make the girl famous. The ploy works, because Flynn invites Beverly over to his house for an "audition," during which he (and here's where the 1950s mentality kicks in) "takes" Beverly's virginity.

Dakota Fanning and Kevin Kline in The Last of Robin HoodPhoto credit: Samuel Goldwyn Films

In a bid to quell Florence's concerns about the very inappropriate relationship between himself and her daughter, Flynn explains that he has every intention of supporting Beverly's career, and even pitches the girl and himself as a "package deal" to a young Stanley Kubrick on the verge of casting Lolita. That meeting doesn't end in Flynn's favor, so the actor decides to produce a film called Cuban Rebel Girls for Beverly to star in instead.

12 Celebs you forgot are senior citizens >>

In the exclusive clip above, Florence and Beverly have it out over Flynn in a very public bar, after mother dearest seems to have had a little too much to drink. Beverly, apparently tired of her mother's smothering ways, demands to be let out from under her thumb, declaring Flynn to be her fiancé and therefore none of her mother's business.

Ewww!

We've got to hand it to Fanning and Kline — they really look to have good chemistry on the screen and, although the age difference is a definite deal-breaker, they make the onscreen romance look believable.

Not convinced? Watch the trailer below.

The Last of Robin Hood will be released in theaters August 29.
